Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka fight: Broken glass panels cause stir, Shakib Al Hasan fined

Colombo: Bangladesh edged past Sri Lanka by two wickets to set up a final with India but not before spectators witnessed ugly scenes in the final over at R Premadasa Stadium on 16 March. File image of Shakib Al Hasan. Solaris Needing 12 off the last six balls in their 160-run chase Bangladesh batsman Mustafizur Rahman faced two bouncers from paceman Isuru Udana and was run out after missing the second. The visitors contested the call of the leg-umpire saying it was a no ball due to its height. Shakib looked furious on the boundary and even waved to call the batsmen back to the pavilion. But sanity prevailed and Bangladesh erupted after Mahmudullah Riyad hit the winning six on the penultimate ball. I wasn t calling them back. I was telling them to play. You can describe it both ways. It depends on how you see it Shakib told reporters. We are all humans and making mistakes is in our nature. We should take it on our chin and move forward. We always had healthy competition in the ground but outside we are friends. Emotions take over I need to be careful as a leader of a team I will be careful next time. Colombo: Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah said on Tuesday that the underdogs fresh from upsetting Sri Lanka plan to hone their brand of Twenty20 cricket against India in a key tri-series showdown. The visitors staged a 215-run chase to defeat hosts Sri Lanka in their second match of the tournament rebounding from a loss in their opener against India. Bangladesh 10th in the world T20I rankings behind Afghanistan will be in strong contention for the tri-series final if they beat table-toppers India on Wednesday. Bangladesh stand-in skipper Mahmudullah celebrates a wicket in his side s last clash against Sri Lanka in the Nidahas Trophy 2018. AFP Mahmudullah who was named captain after Shakib Al Hasan was ruled out of the tri-series due to injury said the minnows entered the series wanting to create a Bangladesh brand of cricket . I think the skills are there. We need to be smart to take that calculated risk he told reporters in Colombo saying his side had to compensate for its lack of power hitters. Taking on a particular bowler who we think can be targeted these sort of things we need to apply when we are playing. These things will give us that Bangladesh brand of T20 cricket. The Tigers have beaten top sides in Test and One-Day Internationals but struggled to find consistency in the shortest format of the sport having lost nine of their last 11 T20Is. Mahmudullah urged his bowlers to learn from their Indian counterparts who have utilised the batting-friendly conditions at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Rising Indian pacemen like Jaydev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur have been instrumental in elevating India to the top of the table in the series. Spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar have also chipped in with disciplined bowling and crucial strikes. Bangladesh s left-arm quick Mustafizur Rahman has picked up five wickets in two matches but leaked close to 10 runs an over. Mahmudullah backed his strike paceman to come good in the remaining matches in conditions he believes are tough for bowlers. I think he is a great bowler for our team he has been doing really well. It s just the wicket that suits the batsman most said Mahmudullah. Mustafiz is in great shape and is our strike bowler and I will always back him up. Bangladesh have never won a T20I tournament since they started playing the format in 2006. Mohammed Siraj Shardul Thakur and Yuzvendra Chahal took a wicket each for India. (Scorecard) Live Score Match 5 R.Premadasa Stadium Colombo Mar 14 2018 BAN 159/6 (20.0) IND 176/3 (20.0) Match Ended India beat Bangladesh by 17 runs Earlier Skipper Rohit Sharma (89) led from the front and helped India post 176/3 against Bangladesh in the fifth match of the tri-series. Indian openers Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan (35) clicked at the right time and gave the crucial start when needed the most. Skipper Rohit who was out of form for quite a long time returned to the form and slammed his 13th fifty (off 42 balls). Suresh Raina (47) also contributed handsomely to the cause. On the other hand Bangladesh bowlers struggled right from the start. The fielders failed to restrict the Indian batsmen thanks to some sloppy work on the outfield. Put in to bat India started off on a perfect note as the openers forged a 70-run partnership before Dhawan was clean bowled by Rubel Hossain. His 27-ball knock was laced with five boundaries and one six. Experienced left-arm batsman Raina then joined Rohit and the duo played sensibly. In the process Rohit completed his half-century and helped India to cross 100-run mark in 14th over. Raina also played as expected from him. The Uttar Pradesh batsman dispatched the bad balls perfectly while rotating the strike.Catch the highlights of the match between India vs Bangladesh 5th T20I Nidahas Trophy straight from Colombo22:20 IST: And its over. With senior statesmen MS Dhoni Virat Kohli and regulars like Bhuvneshwar Kumar Jasprit Bumrah Hardik Pandya and others rested it is a chance for the promising young players to make a mark. The Tri-nation subcontinental showdown will be contested between Sri Lanka India and Bangladesh. The first match which takes place on Tuesday will feature India and Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium Colombo. The decision of selectors to experiment with the younger lot means that the likes of wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant paceman Mohammed Siraj Washington Sundar and others get a chance to prove their mettle and show that they belong to the international stage. But what will be interesting to see is what sort of combination the Indian think-tank opts for considering that they will look to give as many opportunities as possible to the youngsters. Skipper Rohit Sharma will open the batting and the most likely person to accompany him at the other end will be Shikhar Dhawan. This puts KL Rahul s spot in a bit of jeopardy because Suresh Raina and Manish Pandey have sealed the slots for number three and four. Hence it will be intriguing to see where Rahul fits in. With MS Dhoni rested young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will shoulder the responsibility of pinch hitter towards the end of the innings. However this will be his first T20I since July 2017. But if he does replicate his domestic form then it will definitely augur well for team India. Dinesh Karthik will assume wicketkeeping duties. Jaydev Unadkat was apart of the Indian side that won the T20 series against South Africa. (Source: AP) Among the bowlers Yuzvendra Chahal Axar Patel and Washington Sundar head the spin department while Jaydev Unadkat will lead the seam attack. Undakat who has been a part of the Indian T20I side will look to use this series as an opportunity to prove his worth and break into India s ODI team. Shardul Thakur Mohammad Siraj will be other seamers in the team. Another notable aspect is whether India opts for a third seamer or goes with allrounder Vijay Shankar. As far as the hosts are concerned they will be rejuvenated after their recent tri-series victory in Bangladesh last month. Dinesh Chandimal will lead the side and Suranga Lakmal will be his deputy. Upul Tharanga Danushka Gunathilaka Kusal Mendis along with their skipper will shoulder the duty of the batting. Suranga Lakmal Dasun Shanaka Dushmantha Chameera and mystery spinner Dhananjaya De Silva will need to bring their experience into play against a potent Indian batting line-up. Else India seems favourites to run away with the match. However a couple of early strikes will definitely put the second string Indian batting under pressure. An introvert in person but quite expressive on the cricket field Deepak Hooda resembles the image of most Indian cricketers who do not hail from the cricketing powerhouses. Like Bhuvneshwar Kumar Wriddhiman Saha or Umesh Yadav Hooda is a man of few words. But ask him about his latest call-up to the Indian team for the Nidahas Trophy and words start rolling out like a school kid whose elocution competition has just started. He is jubilant understandably but along with that there is a sense of responsibility that one can feel in his words. Hooda s first call-up to the national team came during the T20I series against Sri Lanka in December 2017. It was a short series which ended within a week and the Baroda player didn t get an opportunity to feature in the playing XI. But Hooda claims that being in the Indian dressing room and rubbing shoulders with the likes of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma was a learning experience in itself. The dressing room environment naturally had a rub off effect on him. It was a good experience. There was a lot of self-belief in the team. I learnt a lot about professionalism. Nobody bothered you unnecessarily. But it was important to have your own plan and practice accordingly. Basically I figured out how you should take your own responsibility said Hooda on a telephonic conversation from the sidelines of a Star Sports event in Hyderabad. File image of Deepak Hooda. AFP There have been innumerous stories of Dhoni sharing his wisdom with the youngsters and thanks to the Sri Lanka series which India won 3-0 Hooda also has one of his own. During the week-long series Hooda informs Dhoni talked to him about the art of finishing and how to bat at No 5. With both Dhoni and Hardik Pandya in the Indian squad for that three-match series there was no vacancy in the Indian middle order for Hooda. But now that both of them have been rested there is a vaccum in the team which can be fulfilled by Hooda and it is safe to say that he will put Dhoni s advice into practice in the Island nation if given an opportunity. A glance at his career strike rate in T20s 143.48 is enough to understand how destructive a batsman Hooda is. He has the attributes that a number five batsman needs and also possesses the ability to finish games. He was also amongst the runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and smashed the third fastest T20 century of the tournament in February. He finished with 226 runs which he struck at a strike rate of 150.66. India might have won the T20I series against South Africa but the finishing problem resurfaced in the Rainbow Nation. In the first match in Johannesburg where 220 seemed reachable Virat Kohli and Co only managed to post 203. While they accelerated efficiently in the next game but it was because Dhoni and Manish Pandey were at the crease for a long time and were set for the late flourish. The scenario was going to be the same in the last match of the tour too but Proteas bowled a poor penultimate over. What those three matches highlighted though was that Dhoni needed to be at the centre for some time before upping the ante while Pandya hadn t yet grown properly into the role of a finisher. In their absence the Nidahas Trophy serves as an ideal platform for Hooda to put himself on the selector s radar and he is up for the challenge. I would like to bat at No 5 if I get an opportunity. But if not that I would bat wherever the team needs me and I would try to give my best remarked the 22-year old. Before he was selected for the Nidahas Trophy Hooda was also retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. He has always been rated highly in the shortest format his value first came to notice in 2016 when he was notched up by SRH for Rs 4.2 crore 42 times his base price of Rs 10 lakh. Consistent performances have ensured that the stakes of the Baroda all-rounder haven t dropped. Almost four teams were in the bidding war to acquire his services before his former team used the Right to Match card to retain him for Rs 3.6 crore. I was not following the IPL auction said Hooda. But it was heartening to see that Sunrisers Hyderabad were backing me and trusted in me. Main khush tha ki main phir Hyderabad ke sath hoo mujhe phir se koi naya dressing room join nahi karna padega (I was happy that I got back with Hyderabad and wouldn t have to join a new dressing room). The upcoming IPL will be Hooda s third year with SRH and he will now be a part of their core team. When questioned if there would be extra pressure on him he answered There is no question of pressure. It all depends on the situation of the match. But I am looking forward to the challenges. They have shown a lot trust in me so it will be beneficial for the team if I stay calm and focus on how I can perform for my team without taking any extra pressure. The year 2018 has begun on a good note for Hooda and his career is on the right path. He might be a shy and reserved person but his focus remains immaculate and he is ready to give his 100 percent if given an opportunity.
